School Profile
Beginning in 1919 and situated in the heart of northern Minnesota, Bemidji State University offers an education like no other. Our lakeside campus provides the stunning backdrop for our 70 undergraduate programs, 8 graduate degrees and dozens of emphases, certificates, teacher licensures and pre-professional programs. At BSU, you won’t just learn — you’ll innovate, create, discover, experiment and transform.
BSU also values the importance of education in the professions and work to keep our students engaged and excited about learning. In addition to establishing a solid educational foundation, we establish an understanding of the benefits of serving others and preserving their cultures as well as nature and the world around us.
Between our Graduates, Undergraduates, and Online Students, BSU serves around 5,000 people. Our core philosophy is built upon a commitment to environmental stewardship, community service, and global understanding. Our beautiful campus is located on the western shore of Lake Bemidji and inspires students in unique ways daily.

Campus Life
There is something for every kind of interest here at BSU. Clubs and organizations keep us connected. Events keep us going. Arts and culture keep us entertained. It is just as easy to take a kayak out on the lake as it is to go to a concert at Bangsberg Hall. With clubs for anime, reading, editing, fishing, criminal justice, and religious groups, students have plenty of opportunities to find their people. If you are one who values art and culture, we have the Talley Gallery right on campus, which showcases artwork and traveling exhibits. There is also the Watermark Art Center and a rotating Sculpture Walk in downtown Bemidji. BSU has a variety of musical performances and a writer’s journal offering free admission to students. Aside from the vibrant art scene, BSU has sports options for playing and watching. Hockey is a popular division I sport, but there is also volleyball, soccer, football, and rugby. For the more mellow students, life in the dorm halls is a wonderful and low stress experience. Make sure to say hello to someone in the dining hall, and Lakeside food court!
